Trend Report Fall 2011: Mod

I am a big fan of the show Mad Men, so when I saw that the Mod trend was coming back in full swing for Fall this year, I was quite happy. The era's iconic earlier looks are what I've noticed a lot of designers came up with on the runway.  Whether it's a dropped-waist coat, that also functions as a dress, or an A-line frock with an unconventional collar, several designers are bringing back the mod dress and giving the streamlined, minimal silhouette a fresh update.  With a clean, chic, and fuss-free look, it should come as no surprise that mod dresses are also popular among several celebrities, such as Carey Mulligan and Hailee Steinfeld. Jean Shrampton and Twiggy started the trend, now let's see who else will carry it on. There is also a new show called Pan Am that will start in the Fall, it features Christina Ricci and her adventure as a stewardess. I expect there will be a lot of great fashion on there.

Aztec LOVE

While killing time at school, I stumbled upon this amazing pair of wedges on Revolve Clothing. Don't you think this is a MUST-HAVE?! One of my favorite trends of all that I absolutely never can grow tired of is the AZTEC trend. If you know me, i'm a girl who loves anything that is printed, whether it is aztec (as said above), tribal, navajo, Ikat, florals, you name it. I love colours too, especially colors that makes a bold statement. Sadly, I don't have the budget to order these sweet babies, but maybe once it goes on sale (and i'm crossing my fingers that it won't be sold it). So tell me what you think? Do you love it or hate it? :)

Have a nice one, lovelies!

Trend Report Fall 2011: Polka Dots

This upcoming Fall, a returning trend is coming upon us. Polka dots. Not just for little girls anymore. This trend brings some fun elements into your wardrobe, and you can play it up anyway you'd want. Dots are a fun and easy way to express a fashion statement. They can go with anything and everything, and come in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. I've noticed polka dots come and go with certain seasons, but they are a constant for a lot of designers. They can be displaced randomly, in a specific pattern or all over. The great thing about dots is that they can be printed on the fabric or they can be applied on to stand out and emphasize the detailing of the clothes.

Yesterday to Today: Mens Fashion Icons

So I don't often do men's fashion, but I thought I would stick with my previous theme and do some male fashion icons of mine from back then also.

Best known for his acting role in Citizen Kane, Orson Welles was also a director and a screenwriter. He had an impeccable style during the 40s and 50s. With his pipe in hand, his visual style translated into his clothing.Being married to Lauren Bacall had its perks, but Humphrey Bogart was all his own when it came to style. Wearing a fedora and a trenchcoat in a lot of his movies made the women swoon in the 20s, 30s, and 40s! Born in England, Cary Grant already succeeded in being a daper and stylish kind-of man. But when he came to the U.S., he starred in several movies that had him in polished suits and ties and it made it even more evident. I find his best style came to casual clothing though, like this one, maybe that's why he was considered one of the sexiest men of his time. He could pull of anything. Most popular in 1940s and 1960s, Gregory Peck played several important roles. Also known as the 12th 'Greatest Male Star of All Time', he had a great fashion sense. Wearing clothing that was up-to-date and classy.Known as ol' blue eyes, Frank Sinatra carved his way into the music and acting scene during the swing era. A founding member of the Rat Pack, Frank always wore stylish clothing. Whether it was a fedora, or just a sleek suit, you could always count on him to bring it while performing.Marlon Brando was most known for his role in 'A Streetcar Named Desire', but he had a significant impact on acting during the 40s and 50s. Also known for being a 'bad boy' on screen, he wore classic white T's with leather jackets, and suits that were popular in his heyday. You see a lot of that even today.

Yesterday to Today: Fashion Icons

So Lauren Bacall is a big style icon of mine from the 40s and 50s. She had such a classic style that you can often find in today's fashion. She'd wear this outfit then, women would wear it now. The blonde bombshell, Marilyn Monroe, is known everywhere for the classic pin up girl look. The 'fly-up white dress' is such an iconic image, you could ask anyone and they would know who it is. Marilyn had great style in her day, especially in casual outfits like this one. She was a real woman. Audrey Hepburn was such a style icon during the 50s, that she left a legacy that people look to today. She was on the cover of Vogue, started the tradition of the LBD, and she even has a pair of pants dedicated to her at Gap. Truly gorgeous, and a fantastic actress, Audrey is someone I look to for ideas. Most known for playing Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz', Judy Garland was a great icon during the 40s and 50s. Whether she was wearing those classic ruby slippers, or just a garment like this one, she always had something stylish on. Famously known as the "Love Goddess", Rita Hayworth brought Spanish flair to the 40s. She was a pin-up girl for several years, but her own personal style was that of a classic and effortless woman. Another 40s actress, Ava Gardner was known as one of the most beautiful women of her day. She had a sexy and classic style, wearing several gorgeous black dresses and diamonds galore. These women are just a few of the classic actresses that I love looking to for inspiration and great wardrobes.

Fall 2011 Trend Report

So for my second post, I wanted to do a little Trend Report for Fall 2011. NYFW is coming up in September. Just to let you know, Suzanne the Director of STYL will be in New York towards the end of September. So if you want to meet up with her or show her around during that time, contact her! The upcoming  NYFW is for Spring 2012, but I figured I would do what we can expect for the upcoming Fall. I love this season so much. There are so many things that you can change up for your wardrobe. This season brings richer colors, layers, sexy boots, and fun accessories. So here are just a few things you can expect during this fantastic season.

 Fur Galore!
Designers took to fur to create new textures, shapes, and designs for Autumn. Great way to spruce up any accessory.

 Red hot!
Last year's little-black-dress has now turned into a smokin' hot little-red-dress.

 The Old West
Navajo prints, crochet embroidery are all part of this Western theme. These evoke a sense of being in a prairie scenery.

All Hail The Queen

Antique lace, high collars, exaggerated shoulders, all give the elegance of the Victorian era.

Mad for Plaid

Not just for the 90s anymore.

Best Dressed - Teen Choice Awards 2011

Hello everyone!

I'd just like to introduce myself, my name is Lisa and I guess will I now be the 'blogger' for STYL. I'm so excited to start doing this, I really love fashion blogging and I think this will be a lot of fun. So for my first post, I've decided to do a little Best Dressed list from the Teen Choice Awards that happened yesterday. It's odd watching the show, being 22 right now, but I really love seeing what people wear to an award show like this. I noticed a lot of colors, different prints, short length dresses, fun accessories, and great shoes. With this type of gathering, I think it's fun to be a little out there and wear something that expresses your individuality. If only we had their stylists!

And here's to several posts! Thank you!
